How to transfer a domain to SKAVON
Moving a domain between registrars is routine and does not take your website or email offline - as long as you do not change its DNS. Here is the whole process.
- 1
Check the extension can be transferred
Not every extension can be moved. Enter your domain on our transfer page and it shows whether it is supported and the exact price before you commit.
- 2
Unlock the domain at your current registrar
Registrars lock domains by default so nobody can move them without you knowing. Switch the "transfer lock" (sometimes called registrar lock) off in your current registrar's dashboard.
- 3
Make sure you can receive the confirmation email
Transfers are confirmed by email sent to the domain's admin contact. Check that address is current, and if WHOIS privacy hides it, switch privacy off until the transfer is done.
- 4
Get the authorization code
Ask your current registrar for the domain's authorization code (also called an EPP code or auth code). It is the password that proves you own the domain.
- 5
Start the transfer with us
Enter the domain and the code on our transfer page and pay the transfer price. A transfer adds one year to your registration, so you do not lose the time you already paid for.
- 6
Approve it if asked, then wait
If your current registrar emails you to approve the transfer, do it - approving early speeds things up. Most transfers finish within about a week; the page shows the status as it goes.
Things that catch people out
- The 60-day rule. For most extensions a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of being registered or of a change of registrant. Your current registrar can tell you if that applies.
- Do not let it expire mid-transfer. Renew first if it expires within a couple of weeks.
- Keep your DNS as it is. A transfer changes who the domain is registered with, not where it points. Leave the nameservers alone and your site and email carry on as before.
